As Fall quickly approached and I began to plan yet another ministry year. I began to get overwhelmed: there are so many redecorating projects to be done, volunteer positions to be filled, programs to restart after taking a hiatus over the summer. The list of people I needed to connect with kept getting longer and longer.
It’s times like that when it is easy to throw my hands up and have my very own pity party. I even begin to wonder what it would be like to work a “normal” 9-to-5 job.
As I watched my calendar for the next 12 months quickly fill up, I couldn’t help but think back to some of the general sessions at the Conspire Conference last April. I kept thinking of Christine Yount-Jones challenge for us to face our fears and the story she told of how she survived the grief that came from the death of her husband by putting her faith in knowing that God was in control. I was also impacted by Phil Visher’s transparency as he shared how God humbled him by allowing him to lose Big Idea and through that learn that God was the one in control. My dread at the challenges ahead of me turned into excitement to see what God has in store for me this year. I’m not saying that I don’t think this Fall will not be hard… I know it will be. I also know, though, that God is in control and will see all that needs to be done to completion and provide what I need.
