Your ministry to kids doesn't start with an X-box and a big screen TV. It doesn't start with a job description written by a senior pastor. It doesn't start with facilities and a budget. It
doesn't even start with a great conference filled with tips and "best practices."
Your ministry to kids starts with God's love. Not his love for kids - his love for you.
Christ is calling to you - to "all you who are weary and burdened." Bring your burdens to the cross - and lay them down. Let them go. Then stay there - at the cross - resting in God's love. Not his "love for the world" in abstract, but his very real love for YOU.

Kristi nailed it on the head. In our search for doing things better and more creatively, it was refreshing to hear that what today's kids need more than anything else is the personal touch that only comes from a loving, concerned adult. This we can do, regardless of our technical expertise.

For anyone who didn't attend this conference, I would recommend getting the dvd of this session. Phil gave some great take-away points that could be used for volunteer training or to encourage your team (or pop it in YOUR computer for a quick bit of encouragement!). I also appreciated that in the midst of Willow Creek's fantastic facility, and coming from someone with a lot of creative resources, his main point was "love". Now THAT I can fit in my budget at my small church.

I've come away from the conference with my mind buzzing about how our Children's Ministry can better reach our kids. These last two sessions put it in perspective, though. They helped me to recognize which are my/my ministry's burdens, which are Christ's (thanks David Staal session 5) and they left me feeling empowered that we can do something that the media giants and video games can't (love a child). We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us!!

I was greatly touched and encouraged by Phil's honesty and openness in sharing some of his story about laying down his own burdens and picking up God's burdens. Thanks also for the encouragement to trust and seek God.
